Terms of use
Last updated: 9 August 2026
These terms govern your use of Shankdt — the website at shankdt.com and the Shankdt mobile app, operated by SHANKDT (PTY) LTD (registration number 2026/568985/07), 9 Lanyon Street, Baillie Park, Potchefstroom, North West, 2531, South Africa. By using Shankdt you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.
1. What Shankdt is (and isn’t)
Shankdt is a booking and community platform. We connect you with independent golf clubs, help you fill a fourball, and give you tools like the shot tracer. The clubs — not Shankdt — own and operate the courses, set green fees, and host your round. Your round itself is subject to the club’s own rules, dress code and conditions.
Shankdt is also for grown-ups: you must be 18 or older to create an account, make a booking or pay through the service. Junior golfers are always welcome on the course — but the account and the booking belong to a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on the junior’s behalf and assists with their use of the service.
2. Bookings and fees
- You can settle at the club — paying the club directly, as a walk-in would — or, where the club has switched it on, pay in the app. The total is the same either way. Where you pay in the app, the payment is split as it is charged, so the club’s green fee and cart hire go straight to the club and never pass through Shankdt.
- Shankdt charges a booking fee of 5% per player of that player’s share of the booking (green fees plus any cart hire), capped at R50 per player and rounded up to the whole rand. The amount charged also includes a payment charge and any VAT for which Shankdt is accountable; this is the same whether you settle at the club or pay in the app, so no payment method is cheaper than another. The club receives 100% of its green fees and cart hire. The full amount is shown in rand before you confirm, and nothing is added afterwards. A Shankdt Pro member’s own share of the booking fee is waived; other players’ shares still apply.
- Some bookings are confirmed instantly; concierge bookings are confirmed by our team, typically within about 15 minutes during club hours. A booking is only final once confirmed.
- Cancellations and no-shows — two policies, because there are two amounts: green fees and cart hire are the club’s money and follow the club’s own cancellation policy. Shankdt’s booking fee is ours, and works like this: cancel 48 hours or more before tee-off and any fee you paid online is refunded in full; cancel later than that, or fail to arrive, and the fee is retained as our reasonable cancellation charge under section 17 of the Consumer Protection Act. If the club cancels your round — including for weather — or your cancellation is due to death or hospitalisation, your fee is always refunded in full, no questions. Refunds go back to the card or account that paid. Contact us and we’ll help with the club’s side where we can.
3. Fourball matchmaking
Open games place you with other golfers. Be decent: pitch up, play at pace, and treat your fourball the way you’d want your Saturday treated. Repeated no-shows or abusive behaviour can lead to suspension. A full record of your booking — the reference, the itemised amounts and its status — is kept in My bookings on your account and in your confirmation email, and stays available there for as long as your account exists.
4. Shankdt Pro
Pro is our subscription. New Pro memberships start with a 3-day free trial; after the trial, Pro is R89/month or R899/year. Renewal works by consent: before each new cycle we email you a payment link, and nothing is charged unless you approve and pay it — if you don’t, Pro simply lapses at the end of the period you paid for. Pricing is always shown before any charge. The mobile apps currently sell nothing at all: Pro is unlocked there for free and no purchase is possible inside them. If and when Pro can be bought inside the iOS or Android app, that purchase will be billed through Apple or Google under their terms. The free tier includes 10 shot traces per calendar month; Pro removes that limit and adds premium features. Cooling-off: you may cancel a Pro purchase within 7 days of payment for a full refund under section 44 of the ECT Act. Tee-time bookings for a specific date and time are excluded from that cooling-off right by section 42(2) — their cancellation terms are in section 2 above.
5. The shot tracer
Tracer numbers (carry, apex, hang time, ball speed) are physics-based estimates from your footage and inputs — brilliant for bragging, not a certified measuring instrument. Don’t use them for anything that needs certified accuracy, and film responsibly (don’t hold up play; respect others on the course).
6. Your content
- You own the reviews, photos and traces you post. You give Shankdt a non-exclusive licence to display them in the service (e.g. on course pages and the Clubhouse feed).
- Keep it clean and lawful: no offensive, defamatory or infringing content, and only upload photos you took or may share. We may remove content and restrict accounts that break these rules. Use the in-app report tools to flag problems.
7. Acceptable use
Don’t abuse the service: no scraping, no fake bookings, no attempting to break or overload our systems, no impersonating others.
8. Liability
Shankdt provides the platform “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for the acts of clubs or other golfers, course conditions, or indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other South African law that cannot be excluded.
9. Privacy
Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal information.
10. Events, competitions and entries
Shankdt lists two different kinds of competition, and who is responsible differs between them. A club’s own competition is run by that club: the club sets the rules, decides eligibility, awards and funds any prize, and settles any dispute about the result. Shankdt takes your entry and passes it to the club, and nothing more. An event Shankdt runs is our responsibility on all of those counts, and we will say so on the event itself.
Entry fees are paid at the club on the day, never in the app. An entry is a request until the organiser confirms it, and a listed venue, date, field size or prize may change or be cancelled before then — where an event is cancelled, any fee you have paid the club is a matter between you and the club. Prize values shown are targets unless stated as confirmed. You must meet any handicap or membership requirement the organiser sets, and the organiser may decline an entry.
Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, any competition listed or run through this app. No competition offered through Shankdt is a lottery, sweepstake or game of chance: entry is open to anyone who meets the stated playing requirement, and outcomes are decided by golf.
11. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service evolves; material changes will be posted here with a new date. Questions: support@shankdt.com. These terms are governed by South African law.
